PBX vs. VoIP Phone Systems

office phone systemSignitel offers customers both PBX and VoIP office phone systems, but how do you know which one is right for your office? Although both systems offer a lot of similar features, there are a lot of differences to talk about.

The main advantage of VoIP is the low cost. Cheap rates for both out-of-state and international calls is already making VoIP the winner in this competition. It is also cheaper and easier to install a VoIP system in your office. Because it uses the Internet, you simply connect the phones through an Ethernet. PBX can only be connected where there is a land line.

Don’t get discouraged yet PBX fans. With ever-evolving technology, PBX phone systems are actually becoming cheaper to install. Advanced technology and the need to compete with VoIP have reduced costs significantly. PBX has also been considered much  more stable than VoIP. If you lose your Internet connection, you will also lose the use of your VoIP phone.

PBX offers a larger variety of features and more extensions, making them a better choice for medium to large size businesses. Small businesses and self-employed individuals will benefit more from the low cost and don’t need to be concerned with advanced features they will never use.

Both offer a lot of benefits so carefully weigh your options and decide which office phone system will suit all your needs.
